This template is used to display a random selection of pictures on portals. When this template is used, all pictures are listed using a single page.
Template supports using pictures of the day and custom images. When transcluded on a subpage, template shows a list gallery of all pictures. When transcluded on a basepage (i.e. main page of a portal), templates shows a randomized slideshow of the pictures.
Template does not support showing video files.
Usage
Put wikitext {{subst:Portal pictures/preload}} on the portal subpage, e.g. Portal:Sports/Selected picture and save. Add pictures to the template per instructions in the comments.
When the subpage is ready, put wikitext:
{{/Selected picture}}
on the main portal page, e.g. Portal:Sports.
To find appropriate pictures, use search box below, from {{POTD subpage search box}}:

|1=,|2=,|3=...- Dates of the picture of the day in YYYY-MM-DD format. These should be the names of subpages of Template:POTD. See Wikipedia:Picture of the day/Archive.
|i1=,|title1=,|credit1=,|caption1=|i2=,|title2=,|credit2=,|caption2=|i3=,|title3=,|credit3=,|caption3=...- Use numbered parameters to display images, which don't have a POTD subpage.
|more=- Wikitext for the footer. For example,
|more=[[Portal:Sports/Selected picture|More selected pictures...]]. Optional. Defaults to[[Portal:{{ROOTPAGENAME}}/Selected picture|More selected pictures]]. |more=no- Special value of parameter
|more=to not show the footer. |subpage=- Name of the subpage if it is different from the default "Selected picture", e.g.
|subpage=Selected pictures. Optional.
Legacy subpages
If the portal has legacy subpages (e.g. Portal:Brazil/Selected picture/20) and you wish to re-use them via {{Portal pictures}}, pass the maximum subpage number via parameter |subpagemax=. The template will automatically pick up all subpages from one to the maximum number. By default, "Selected picture" is used as root subpage. Custom subpage can be specified via parameter |subpage=, e.g. |subpage=Featured picture. Example of such usage can seen at Portal:Brazil/Selected picture.
